A man was taken into custody following a nearly 2 1/2-hour pursuit of a white flatbed pickup truck that started Saturday on Pacific Coast Highway and ended in Echo Park, averaging about 10 miles per hour after spike strips flattened all four tires.

The pursuit started at 2:11 p.m. on PCH when the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department tried to stop the pickup truck reported stolen, according to NBC4. It was unclear exactly where on the lengthy coastal roadway the chase started.

The suspect driving reportedly rammed a sheriff’s vehicle leading to the successful use of spike strips, which flattened all four tires.

During the pursuit carried live on NBC4, the man shouted out of the truck at people and gestured.

The man drove on sidewalks, on the wrong side of roads and through red lights along Wilshire Boulevard until turning north on Alvarado Street at 4:20 p.m. The California Highway Patrol was in pursuit and followed several blocks behind.

The Los Angeles Police Department took over the pursuit in Echo Park and executed a PIT maneuver north of the Hollywood (101) Freeway and pinned the truck.

The man was eventually arrested without further incident around 4:40 p.m. His name was withheld.
