A man facing six felony charges in a series of burglaries that targeted downtown Jacksonville businesses has been arrested again after police said they found him inside a meeting and banquet hall.
Miles D. Pelehowski, 29, who is listed as homeless, was arrested about 11:12 p.m. Monday on a burglary charge.
Police were called to Hamilton’s Catering at 110 N. East St. for a report that someone had forced their way into the closed business, according to a police report.
Officers said Pelehowski was arrested at the scene, according to Lt. Mark Lonergan. He was booked into the Morgan County jail and released Tuesday under state pre-trial detention guidelines.
A break-in was reported at the same location April 30, but no arrest has been made.
Pelehowski already is facing six felony burglary charges following his arrest April 1.
Police were able to use witness information and video surveillance to make an arrest in a series of burglaries that began in January in the 300 block of West State Street and included April 1 break-ins at Professional Estate Buyers at 201 W. Morgan St., The Soap Co. Coffee House at 207 S. Sandy St., and Charlie’s at 115 W. Lafayette Ave.
Other burglaries took place between March 26 and March 31 in the 200 block of West Morgan Street, the 200 block of South Mauvaisterre Street and the 1300 block of West Walnut Street.
Pelehowski was released that same day on his own recognizance under state pre-trial detention guidelines. A hearing date has not yet been set for any of the charges, according to court records.
Pelehowski previously was arrested Jan. 6, 2025, on a misdemeanor retail theft charge. He was accused of taking merchandise from Downtown Liquor, 340 W. College Ave., without paying, according to a police report.
He pleaded guilty in March 2025 to a misdemeanor retail theft charge and was sentenced to one year of probation, which ended March 23, court records show.
