JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – An all-inclusive youth baseball field is set to open in an Eastern Carolina city by the end of this year.
Jacksonville has announced that construction on the “Inspiration Field” will begin on Friday and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
The new field will be at the former skatepark within the Commons Recreation Complex and feature a rubber surface, so that children of all abilities can participate.
The city will also build a shelter pavilion and new walking trails to expand amenities for visitors.
The project will total $1.2 million, with a $500,000 grant from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund and other city funds.
“This project represents our commitment to creating spaces where every child has the opportunity to play, connect, and thrive,” said Susan Baptist, Director of Recreation. “We are excited to provide a facility that truly reflects the spirit of inclusion and community.”
