The movie theater at the Village at Leesburg is again changing management and branding with Knoxville, TN-based Phoenix Theatres taking over this month.

The CMX Village 14 theater will close Monday, May 11 and reopen under the new management Friday, May 15.

“Phoenix Theatres is proud to be keeping the Village 14 Theatre open for its past patrons who have been loyal customers for over a decade,” Phoenix Theatres Entertainment President and CEO Phil Zacheretti stated in the announcement. “We are excited to bring new offerings in film presentation with our Phoenix Theatres Experience (PTX) auditoriums, changes in our food and beverage offerings and service and overall lower admission prices than previously offered. We look forward to providing great customer service to the greater Leesburg area for years to come.”

Two of the theater’s 14 auditoriums will be converted to PTX experiences, with laser projectors, immersive sound systems, the large screens and electronic recliner seats. One of the theaters will be a D-BOX using hyper-realistic motion systems that mimic on-screen action with media in the seats to simulate sensations like driving, flying or explosions.

Phoenix Theatres will offer $5 seats in the standard theaters on Tuesdays. Also planned is a free summer movie series with classic PG and PG-13 rated films for eight weeks during the summer. Those shows will be Tuesdays through Thursdays at 10 a.m.

Cobb Theatres opened the center, then with 12 screens, in 2011 as an anchor in the new Village at Leesburg development. CMX acquired Cobb in 2017 and rebranded the Leesburg theater in 2020 when it reopened after a six-month closure. CMX filed for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization last year only five years after emerging from a COVID-related bankruptcy in 2020.
