A Massachusetts man was killed in a brutal stabbing near a Broadway theater near New York City’s Times Square this week, police said.
Leonides Baez, a 39-year-old from Worcester, was the man found stabbed and slashed on 43rd Street about 11:30 p.m. Monday, the New York Police Department said Wednesday.
Authorities have told NBC New York they’re looking for three suspects in the case.
Police responding to a call in front of a 43rd Street restaurant, Burger & Lobster Bryant Park, found the victim stabbed in the face, back and chest, officials have said. That location is also doors down from the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, which “& Juliet” currently calls its Broadway home.
The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died of his injuries. Law enforcement sources told NBC New York the victim was unhoused, and that he was seen arguing with someone shortly before the stabbing.
Authorities have said the trio they’re looking for was wearing black clothing. Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
