A man suspected of molesting a 10-year-old girl in Poway last weekend was arrested Wednesday.

The 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with the alleged sexual battery of the child near Midland Road north of Poway Road, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect allegedly assaulted the girl shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, then fled on an electric scooter when a friend of hers screamed at him to stop, sheriff’s Lt. Aloha Peters said.

The man was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of performing a forcible lewd act on a person under age 14. He was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Authorities did not say what led to his arrest. The Sheriff’s Office released surveillance images of a suspect on Tuesday asking for the public’s help in identifying him.
