There’s somber news coming from Andersonville: locals are bidding farewell to one of Chicago’s beloved pizza establishments. After nearly a decade, Fat Chris’s Pizza And Such is preparing to close its doors for good.

Michael Milazzo and Violeta Djukic, the husband-and-wife duo who opened the pizzeria, announced the decision to shut down on Instagram last month—stirring a wave of emotions among loyal patrons.

According to Block Club Chicago, since the announcement of the closure, the shop has experienced a surge in orders, nearly doubling its sales as locals rush to eat their favorite dishes one last time. Heartwarming calls and emails have poured in from those who have loved the restaurant’s dishes since its opening in 2017, when it took over the space formerly occupied by the Mexican-Korean fusion eatery, Takos Koreanos.

But the rush isn’t enough to make the couple reconsider their plan to close.

Located at 1706 W. Foster Ave, Fat Chris’s will serve its final slices on May 22.
