After almost a year of anticipation, Chicago hot dog chain Portillo’s finally has an opening date in Schertz. The cult-favorite restaurant concept will celebrate its grand opening on June 7, according to a store employee.

The new location in the massive Schertz Station shopping center will be the first in the San Antonio area. The company has been making a heavy investment in Texas, opening several outposts in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston areas, plus far-flung locations in El Paso and Lubbock. There’s still no word of a unit inside the city limits.

According to an earlier release, the new Portillo’s will feature its “restaurant of the future” design with a smaller, more efficient footprint, the brand’s signature double drive-thru lanes, pick-up shelves, and a convenient grab-and-go area. The location is currently hiring real humans, so no worries about robots.

Portillo’s is most known for selling glizzies, an homage to its Windy City roots. Hot dogs come in regular, chili cheese, a chargrilled Maxwell Street Polish sausage, and a vegan Garden variety.

The Italian beef sandwich features thinly sliced roast beef served on French bread, which can be plunked in hot “gravy,” technically au jus. The chain rounds off the menu with burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, Italian-American pastas, and some rather saucy ribs.

Portillo’s has not announced any launch promotions or posted its opening hours. Fans can check for updates on the Schertz location page.
