TL;DR
- You can use the newly launched Fitbit Air alongside a Pixel Watch.
- Google has confirmed that both devices can co-exist in the new Google Health app.
- This saves you the effort of switching devices or going through the connection-disconnection loop every time you want to switch.
Google just brought on a new fitness tracking experience. It includes a new discreet fitness tracker, the Google Fitbit Air, along with a consolidated tracking experience in the Google Health app.
The Fitbit Air’s merit lies in its ability to become invisible on your wrist and only requires your attention once in a while, every few days you want to charge it. While the Fitbit Air has a vibration motor to alert you, Google is reserving it for alarms that nudge you to wake up, but without any sound. But since there’s no screen or practically any other way to interact with the equipment, the Fitbit Air remains largely limited to a fitness accessory, rather than being an extension to your phone, a purpose that smartwatches serve well.
Keeping this in mind, Google is ensuring you can continue to use your Pixel Watch alongside Fitbit Air, rather than having to choose one.
Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority?
Companion apps for fitness equipment typically only allow one device to be connected to a phone at a time. The same goes for the Fitbit app (now Google Health), which lets you pair only one fitness tracker or a Pixel Watch at a time.
This, however, changes with the new Air. Google confirmed to Android Authority that you can use both devices simultaneously without disconnecting or unpairing either.

Besides the advantage of not having to switch devices depending on where you are or where you’re headed, there’s currently no benefit to wearing both simultaneously. The Fitbit Air will not sync directly to a Pixel Watch, but rather only to an Android device. The Fitbit Air currently records workouts automatically, which you can review later.
Thankfully, Google plans to bring the same edge to other Fitbit trackers, so you will be able to use them alongside a Pixel Watch. There’s no timeline for this development yet, but Google says it’s coming soon.
