The new season is here, and Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is pumped after making a joke about Jesus in her latest Instagram post.
Cunningham posted some pictures from the offseason and preseason, including one of her talking to Blake Shelton. Her caption read, “preseason is ovaaaa (thank you Jesus hahaha kidding, kinda!).”
Clearly, she was happy to be done with the preseason and onto the regular season. She played in three games during the preseason, and her best outing was the Fever’s first against the New York Liberty. Cunningham scored 13 points and made five of her eight shots.

Cunningham’s performance in the preseason was a promising sign for her. She is coming off a torn MCL injury suffered in August 2025, and she looks ready to go.
Her injury came during a game against the Connecticut Sun on Aug. 17, 2025. Cunningham went down in the first half, grabbing her leg.
She has made a full recovery and appears good to go. Cunningham had to step up in place of other injured stars on the Fever, like Caitlin Clark, during the 2025 season. During the 2025 WNBA season, Cunningham played in 30 games, starting 13 of them. She averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
After the season, Cunningham became an unrestricted free agent. Ultimately, she chose to return to the Fever on a one-year contract.
Before her time with the Fever, Cunningham spent six years with the Phoenix Mercury, who drafted her in the second round of the 2019 WNBA Draft.
She was selected out of Missouri with the 13th pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft. Cunningham was a standout player in college, being named First-team All-SEC three times from 2017 to 2019. Additionally, she was named SEC Freshman of the Year and to the 2016 All-Freshman Team in 2016.
