Police said a man was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a home on San Antonio’s south side Friday afternoon, sparking a homicide investigation.
SAN ANTONIO — A man was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound to the back of his head Friday afternoon on the city’s south side, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Police said officers were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. to the 8900 block of Prairie Hill Street after a neighbor called to report concerns that someone inside the home may have been shot.

When officers arrived, they located one victim inside the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the back of the head, SAPD said. Authorities noted there also appeared to be gas inside the home.
No weapon was immediately recovered, according to police.
Officers conducted a sweep of the residence and did not find anyone else inside, officials said. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
Homicide detectives are expected to process the scene and conduct a thorough search for evidence, SAPD said.
According to officials, the incident does not appear to be active and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.
Based on the condition of the body, investigators believe the shooting may have occurred several hours before officers were called to the home, possibly overnight, according to police.
The investigation remains ongoing.
