The Wednesday crash sparked further investigation surrounding the circumstances of two individuals’ deaths.
SAN ANTONIO — The man believed to have shot a woman before turning the gun on himself while they were traveling along Loop 410 in west San Antonio this week had worked with the Southwest ISD Police Department for nearly 16 years, according to district officials.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Armando Hernandez and Elia Hernandez as the two people who authorities said had gunshot wounds when their bodies were discovered at the scene of a wreck Wednesday afternoon. Elia’s manner of death was ruled a homicide, while the medical examiner said Armando died of suicide.
The San Antonio Police Department said both were found dead at the scene. An incident report categorizes the case as a murder-suicide; the crash involved a single vehicle.
Both were 46 years old.
Southwest ISD officials said Armando Hernandez was a corporal for the district’s police department, where he had worked since August 2010.
