A 23-year-old man’s death in Oshawa Saturday night is being identified as Durham Region’s third homicide this year, according to police.
Officers responded to reports of an armed person near Simcoe Street N. and Winchester Road E. on Saturday night around 8:10 p.m., said Durham Regional Police on social media.
They located one man “suffering from traumatic injuries,” who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said two groups of men had a physical altercation outside of a Tim Hortons in the area. The victim suffered fatal injuries at that time and the suspect, along with several other men, fled on foot.
Air and K9 units assisted in a search for the suspects, but no one was located, said police.
Police said a large police presence can be expected in the area as the homicide unit investigation continues.
The incident is believed to be isolated with no threat to the public, they said.
Investigators are urging anyone who was in the area between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. with information or video to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
