A security guard was killed and a woman was injured in a shooting early Sunday near an after-hours club in Fort Worth, police said.

Officers responded to the shooting about 5:45 a.m. in the 4500 block of Miller Avenue, police said in a news release. A police 911 call log lists the address as 4505 Miller, which is Club New Start night club.

The Fort Worth Fire Department and officers arrived on scene to provide medical aid.

Based on preliminary information, investigators determined the security guard, who was working after hours, crossed the street to a nearby business and began talking with a person. A confrontation ensued, and the person shot the guard, who died at the scene, police said.

The suspect also shot a woman, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, before fleeing the scene, according to police.

Police said homicide detectives are investigating the shooting. No arrests have been announced.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the man who died after next of kin have been notified.

Members of the community are planning a protest outside Club New Start at 6 p.m. Sunday and calling for the club to be shut down, according to social media posts.

Anyone who may have witnessed or has additional information on this shooting is asked to contact the Fort Worth Police Department at 817-392-4222. Tips may also be submitted anonymously through Tarrant County Crime Stoppers by visiting 469tips.com or by calling 817-469-8477.
