A catio was tossed off a patio by a gust of wind in West Kelowna on Sunday evening.

Strong wind gusts sent a cat patio tumbling on Sunday evening.

A West Kelowna resident sent a photo to Castanet showing the catio in her backyard lying on its side after being tossed by the wind.

“A catio on wheels used 20 feet of a patio as a ramp, somehow dodging a BBQ before taking a chair hostage on its journey,” wrote Lisa Legree in a tongue-in-cheek email.

She said the catio launched 15 to 20 feet off the patio and smashed some patio lanterns on its tumble to the ground around 6:50 p.m.

Luckily, Legree said no cats were in the outdoor enclosure at the “time of flight”.

She said they regularly get unusually strong gusts of wind at their property off Old Okanagan Highway, but this one “came out of nowhere”. She added that the cats had been in the enclosure about an hour earlier.

A wind storm blew through the Kelowna area on Sunday evening. Wind gusts at Kelowna International Airport were recorded at approximately 55 km/h at 8 p.m.
