Horizon Broadcasting Group has launched News/Talk “News Radio KBNW” 1230 KSBN Spokane/107.1 KBNW-FM Deer Park WA.
The new station is led by Washington State Association of Broadcasters President/CEO Keith Shipman, who owns a cluster of stations in Bend OR including the similarly branded 1340 KBNW, and longtime Spokane operator Roger Nelson who both worked together at KOMO Seattle in the 1980s and 1990s. The company agreed to purchase KSBN in February and to LMA then 107.1 KPKL at the same time. The new brand creates a competitor to iHeartMedia’s 590 KQNT.
The station will feature a local morning show “Spokane’s Morning News” from 6-9am followed by syndicated talkers Armstrong & Getty from 9am-12pm, Lars Larson from 12-3pm, and Dave Ramsey from 3-4pm. “Spokane’s Afternoon News” will follow from 4-6pm followed by Ramsey from 6-9pm, America At Night from 9pm-12am, and Mike Gallagher, America in the Morning, and Michael DelGiorno overnights. The news programming will feature Steve Wilke, Joe Paisley, Erich Ebel and Scott Carlon along with ABC News at the top of the hour and AP News at the bottom of the hour.
Shipman commented, “Local broadcasting is at its best when it informs, connects and serves the community. Our goal is to provide timely, relevant information that keeps the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene metropolitan area well informed, whether it’s breaking news, traffic slowdowns, severe weather or the stories shaping our region each day.”
Nelson followed, “After more than 25 years in Spokane broadcasting, I’ve seen how important live and local news is when people need it most. News Radio KBNW is built to be present at the start and end of every weekday, delivering reliable information people can depend on,
along with engaging and entertaining talk programs the rest of the broadcast day. Keith is a consummate pro, who’s worked for years to preserve local broadcasting. This is going to be a wonderful community resource,”
