Washington County Historical Society’s Local History Book Club will meet from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site, 5231 Route 67, Walloomsac, N.Y. Two battles took place there on August 16, 1777 between a contingent of Burgoyne’s army under German General Baum and patriot forces under General John Stark. A tour of the site will be available after the session. Historical society membership is not required for the book club.

Suggested reading includes The Revolutionary War in Bennington County by Richard B. Smith; STARK, The Life and Wars of John Stark by Richard and John Polhemus; or any other material about the battles in Walloomsac.

Future sessions of the club will include books about the larger Adirondack area as well as works by local authors. Upcoming topics include; Charles Evans Hughes, NY governor; potato harvesting in Washington County; and Margaret Tilford, accused witch of Salem, N.Y.
