Many new faces on Moncton council

Besides a new mayor, Moncton also has six new councillors. There are 11 seats at the council table.

There were no incumbents in Ward 1 since Shawn Crossman ran for mayor and Paulette Thériault didn’t re-offer.

Thériault had served as the city’s acting mayor for the past year following Dawn Arnold’s appointment to the Senate.

In addition to Mike Gaudet, Felix LeBlanc was also elected in Ward 1.

There are also no incumbents in Ward 2.

Coun. Daniel Bourgeois was defeated, and Coun. Charles Léger ran unsuccessfully for mayor.

Marc Leger and Kristin Cavoukian are the councillors-elect in Ward 2.

In Ward 3, incumbent Bryan Butler is returning along with newcomer to council Julianna Mutch. Incumbent Dave Steeves was defeated.

In Ward 4, Paul Richard was re-elected. Kate Doyle was also elected. Coun. Susan Edgett opted not to re-offer in that ward.

For councillors-at-large, Marty Kingston was re-elected. Greg Turner was also elected.

It’s a return to the council chamber for Turner, who previously held an at-large seat before running for municipal office and serving as a cabinet minister under Progressive Conservative premier Blaine Higgs.
