ROBERSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A healthcare center that was supposed to help medical needs after Martin General Hospital closed is now shutdown as well.
Health First Wellness Center in Robersonville opened its doors in February of last year.
It was an effort to bring care back for Martin County residents who don’t want to travel to surrounding towns and cities to see a medical professional after the hospital closed in August of 2023.
But the clinic shuttered its doors on Friday. “The closure is predominantly related to poor insurance reimbursements and numerous staffing issues,” said Dr. Stephanie Wynn, who owned and operated the center.
Health First offered services for both primary and urgent care needs, such as annual wellness exams, veterans community care services, and weight management services.
Martin County is still hoping to reopen Martin General as a rural emergency hospital. Rural emergency hospitals were created in 2021 to help hospitals remain open and provide emergency services to rural communities.
