Eric Vasquez’s trial begins Wednesday, charged with murder in the shooting of Jay Morales following a road rage incident.

SAN ANTONIO — A man accused of murdering a father of two children is set to start trial Wednesday. Police had initially said it was an act of self-defense after a road rage incident.

Eric Vasquez, 48, is accused of killing Jay Morales, 41, in a shooting on Jan. 21, 2025. Police say Morales was found lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police say the situation started off as an argument and escalated into the shots being fired. The men were arguing on the road before stopping at the intersection of Spring Time and Spring Hurst on the northwest side.

At the stop, police say Morales grabbed a gun fro his trunk. In response, police say Vasquez grabbed his own gun and shot the other man multiples times in the upper torso.

In July, Vasquez was indicted by a grand jury for murder. He has applied for probation. His trial is scheduled to start Wednesday in Judge Joel Perez’s courtroom.
