Weather changes on the way to Arizona

  • May 13, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Unseasonably warm weather along with dry conditions continue for most of Arizona this week. A strong ridge of high pressure is finally getting pushed to the east, leading to a slight cool down starting today.

The Extreme Heat Warning is now over, with high temperatures in Phoenix expected to top out near 102 degrees today. That’s 9 degrees above normal for this time of year, but cooler than the last two afternoons when Phoenix topped out at 108 and 109 degrees.

Look for sunshine and light winds in the Valley today. Breezy to locally windy conditions are likely in western and northern Arizona. Portions of northern Arizona are under a Red Flag Warning today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for dry and windy conditions. Southwesterly winds are expected between 15 and 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Low relative humidity is also expected, making for dangerous fire conditions. A few scattered showers and dry thunderstorms are possible today in eastern Arizona.

Temperatures will hover near 100 degrees in the Valley on Thursday and Friday, bumping up slightly Saturday to 102 degrees. A cooling trend brings those high temperatures back to the mid 90s for Sunday and continuing into early next week. At this point, no rain is expected in the Valley for at least the next seven days.
