UTICA, N.Y. — The New York State Canal System is opening for the season, offering a wide range of events along New York’s historic waterways.

The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor announced that the canal system will open for navigation at 8 a.m. on May 15, with activities planned from Buffalo to Albany.

Throughout the season, visitors can take part in festivals, community celebrations, recreational activities, canalside concerts and guided tours.

The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor works to preserve canal heritage, promote the region as a tourism destination and support communities along more than 500 miles of waterway.
