Vahid Reza Adib, the partner of former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, has had his charges mentioned in court for the first time since being charged with three counts of rape.
The 64-year-old Brisbane-based surgeon was charged with the offences, as well as two counts of deprivation of liberty and one count of sexual assault, on May 1 after voluntarily attending a Gold Coast police station.
Police allege the offences occurred at Dr Adib’s Burleigh Heads apartment on March 30 and involved a woman aged in her 30s.
Dr Adib did not appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today, but his charges were briefly mentioned and the case was adjourned to July 7.
Dr Adib was granted police bail under the provisions of Queensland’s Bail Act, which allows the officer in charge of a police station to release an alleged offender after they are charged, but before they face a Magistrates Court.
Dr Adib has been in a relationship with former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk since 2021.
There is no suggestion of wrongdoing or involvement by Ms Palaszczuk.
