Taylor Swift had fans feeling like it was her 2014 squad era all over again as she stepped out to support a bestie of over a decade. The “Opalite” singer and another longtime friend, Ashley Avignone, were photographed walking into Via Carota for Lena Dunham’s 40th birthday dinner—but the behind-the-scenes magic happened indoors, as Swift posed for a rare selfie with the small (and very A-list) group once inside.

In a photo shared by a Taylor Swift fan account on X, the Girls creator—who recently released her second memoir Famesick—captured a candid moment at the star-studded celebration in New York. Dunham could be seen taking the selfie at the long dinner table as she sat next her Girls co-star Andrew Rannells (who originally posted the image on his Instagram Stories). Swift—who put a preppy twist on bridal style in a pleated white mockneck minidress paired with a long black hair ribbon—smiled next to him, holding an orange-hued beverage in one hand.

Emily Ratajkowski, who worked with Dunham on Too Much, sat next to Swift wearing a dark brown polka-dotted slip dress. Her boyfriend, French filmmaker Romain Gavras, was on her other side. According to paparazzi photos taken from the dinner, Lena’s husband Luis Felber, whom she married in 2021, also attended.

Swift and Dunham have been friends for over a decade and were first photographed at the 2013 Grammy Awards. Despite the “Bad Blood” singer’s close friendship with Dunham’s ex Jack Antonoff, the director accompanied her longtime friend to a Kansas City Chiefs game last December along with Selena Gomez. Dunham also confirmed she’s still very tight with Swift with a special shout-out in her new memoir.
“TayTay—you sing the songs I wrote this book to, the stories that pulled these stories out of me, the music that makes the whole world feel seen, and yet somehow, miraculously, you also pick up every desperate call at every desperate hour,” she wrote. “I love you so much and forever, for the reasons that everyone does and for reasons all my own.”
