Evacuation orders were lifted in Chino Hills on Wednesday after a fire broke out and threatened structures, officials said.

The Chino Valley Fire District responded to a report of a vehicle fire near Grand Avenue and Pleasant Hill Drive just before 7 p.m. When crews arrived, they found a vehicle that had rolled over and burst into flames, with the fire spreading to vegetation, according to the fire district.

About an hour later, the “Grand Fire” had scorched 30 acres, and Cal Fire said the blaze had a moderate rate of spread with a potential for 200 acres.

The fire appeared to be holding at 30 acres with 0% containment, thanks in part to cooler temperatures and humidity, according to Chino Valley Fire.

An evacuation order — lifted since 10 p.m. — was in effect for Mill Stream Drive, Falling Star Lane, Valley View Lane and Sweet Grass Lane. Another neighborhood was under an evacuation warning. An evacuation center was set up at the Chino Hills Community Center on Peyton Drive, the city of Chino Hills said.

Several roads that were closed due to the firefight reopened, but Grand Avenue from Grand Avenue Park to the city limit was expected to stay closed overnight.

The fire district said the one person that was in the vehicle declined treatment. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor injury, officials said.

Around 250 personnel were assigned to the fire, including 20 engines, six hand crews, three helicopters, two dozers and one water tender, according to Cal Fire. Crews were expected to stay in the area throughout the night.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information arrives.
