Re “Supreme Court mulls Trump administration push to end protections for migrants from Haiti and Syria” (April 29): I volunteer at a local elementary school in City Heights with a reading program. One of my students is an 8-year-old second-grader from Haiti. Her parents are preparing her for a possible return to Haiti as the Supreme Court weighs whether President Trump can cancel their Temporary Protected Status.

This would return this wonderful child and her family to an area the U.S. State Department categorizes as “Level 4: Do Not Travel” due to kidnapping, gang violence, civil unrest and terrorism, per the State Department’s website. This barbaric action would send about 340,000 Haitians into what is basically a war zone.

Are we no longer a humane country and now one that is only concerned for itself?
