Hundreds of books, games, movies and more are added to Northern Tier Library’s shelves each month.

Visit northerntierlibrary.org/what-is-new to view a list of what’s new in fiction, nonfiction, children’s and young adult, as well as movies, music and games.

Additionally, if you’d like to see what’s new at other libraries in Allegheny County, visit the online catalog at acl.bibliocommons.com, select the “Explore” tab from the primary menu and click on the “New Titles” option underneath. From there, you can modify your criteria as you wish.

NORTHERN TIER LIBRARY

Northland Tier Library is located at 4015 Dickey Road in Richland. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and closed Sundays. The library can be reached at 724-449-2665 or northerntierlibrary.org. Here are some upcoming programs:

Adult Summer Learning: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 30

The last summer learning program of the season will focus on Watercolor Art. Participants 13 and older will create an abstract art piece. Advance registration is required.

Humphrey Bogart Classic Movies: 6:30 to
9 p.m. Aug. 5

The Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club will show the movie “The African Queen,” starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. The club’s mission is to preserve and promote classic films from the Golden Age of Hollywood, 1910-1969, in the community. To that end, it offers free movie screenings throughout the Pittsburgh area. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the movie starting at 7. The movie is free, and refreshments will be provided. Registration is required to account for supplies. Mark your calendars: The Sept. 2 movie will be “Key Largo,” starring Bogart as a drifter who visits the family hotel of a war buddy who was killed in action only to find that a Chicago mobster and his gang have taken over the place.

Maker Monday Take-Home Kit: All day July 28

Tweens and teens 11-18 can stop by during regular library hours and pick up a take-home kit. Call the library to reserve one. The July 28 kit is a paper craft celestial garland accented with shiny stars.

Dueling Fandoms: The Wild Robot vs. Lilo and Stitch: 3 to 4 p.m. July 28

Children 6 and older can enjoy crafts, games and activities related to each of the fandoms. Registration is required.

STEAM Outside: 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays through July 30

Everyone age 6 through adult are invited to dabble in a variety of STEAM activities each Wednesday on the library’s side lawn, weather permitting. Registration is required. July 23: nail and string art; July 30: wax art using melted crayons.

Paper Art Project: Full Spectrum: All day Aug. 1

This art kit for children 6 and older includes instructions and paper supplies that will be available for pickup inside the library’s lobby.

PINE CENTER

This satellite branch of Northland Tier Library is located in the Pine Community Center at 100 Pine Park Drive in Pine. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays; and closed Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Here are some upcoming programs:

Family Storytime: 11 a.m. every Friday through Aug. 1

This story time for children of all ages will feature singing, moving, reading and practicing rhymes. A one-time registration is required for the series of story times, but you don’t have to attend every session.

Summer StoryWalk: All summer

Enjoy nature while growing family literacy with our StoryWalk locations at Hance Elementary School, Bakerstown Park and the Pine Community Center. The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, Vt.

Popsicle Stick Art Quilt: All summer

Patrons of the Pine branch are invited to decorate a popsicle stick every time they visit and add it to our special art installation.

The Pine Needles: 4 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 14

All teen through adult yarn art enthusiasts, both beginners and experienced crafters, can join us at the Pine Center on the first Thursday of every month. Beginners can learn how to knit. Experienced crafters are welcome to bring a project to work on. We’ll talk about life, books we’ve read and projects we’re always working on but may never finish. Registration is requested.
