There’s a stigma about what the American Legion is all about, according to Thom Ghrist, who is taking over as commander of Post 44 in Old Town Scottsdale July 1.
“A lot of people think the American is a bunch of old veterans smoking, drinking beer and telling old war stories,” Ghrist said. “That’s not what we do. That’s a stereotype.”
First off, there no smoking in the post, though there is an air conditioned patio for those who want to partake.
