NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – Jeane Vallance Coffey, 82, passed away on May 10th, 2026, peacefully at home in North Richland Hills, Texas. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2026, at Roanoke Church of Christ, with a visitation one hour prior to service beginning at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in Boyd Cemetery. Jeane was born on July 17, 1943, in Champaign, IL to Amadee and Herman Vallance, who was serving in the military. She was raised in the small panhandle city of Memphis, Texas. As a child she excelled in school and extra-curricular activities, particularly enjoying piano and voice. As a high school senior in 1961, Jeane learned of a college chorus which was to sing after services at a congregation in Childress, Texas. She was affected strongly by the singing, vowing to attend THAT college, and sing in THAT chorus, which she achieved that next year. That college was LCC, Lubbock Christian College, in Lubbock, Texas. Towards the end of her sophomore year, Jeane was singing with the chorus after evening worship service at the Pioneer Park congregation in Lubbock. A certain boy, Jerry Coffey, also a student at LCC, was in attendance. As he was watching the chorus, his eyes fixated on Jeane, and he could not look away. This boy began then and there plotting a way to meet this beautiful girl. He did his research, and that paid off! They did meet, and began a beautiful courtship. After graduating from LCC in 1963, Jeane attended Draughn’s Business College in Amarillo, Texas. After graduation, Jeane worked in administration for several doctor’s offices and was then appointed Medical Staff Coordinator for Fort Worth Osteopathic Medical Center of Texas, where she worked for almost 10 years. On February 1, 1964, Jeane married Jerry Coffey, that boy from LCC, in a lovely ceremony at Jeane’s childhood home in Memphis, Texas. They first set up house in Fort Worth, Texas, where their first child, Jereane Elizabeth, was born in 1966. They then moved to Richland Hills, where they welcomed two more daughters, Jeanelle Elaine in 1968, and Jeralyn Ann in 1969. They have also held residence in Hurst, Texas, and finally North Richland Hills, Texas. Jerry and Jeane were avid travelers, seeking adventure and experience together on the open road. In their later years together, there were two states of being for them: – State Number One: Being on a trip. – State Number Two: Planning the next trip. They enjoyed exploring Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, and countless landmarks and attractions across Canada and in the lower 48, always stopping along the way to soak in the local culture and peoples. Jeane was never so happy as when she was building a fire and cooking hot dogs in a remote campground somewhere. Jeane was always involved in works of the church. She taught an infant Bible School class where she incorporated her love of singing into the lessons alongside flannel boards and finger puppets. For many years, Jeane volunteered her time to World Bible School, where she graded lessons for people across the country and in Africa. She took this very seriously and worked tirelessly with the students to help them gain a better understanding of the Word. Jeane also used her vocal talents to lead singing for many women’s classes and Ladies Days over the years. As a lover of all beings of the fur and feather varieties, Jeane could always be found wherever the animals were. She had quite the knack for gaining trust from the most timid of creatures. She counted animals among her friends in numbers that topped even Snow White! Preceding Jeane in death were her mother, Amadee Vallance of Vernon, Texas; father, Herman Vallance of Memphis, Texas; and sister, Janis Adler of Stoneburg, Texas. Jeane is survived by her husband of 62 INCREDIBLE years, Jerry Coffey; daughter, Jereane Workman of Hurst, Texas; daughter, Jeanelle Coffey of North Richland Hills, Texas; daughter, Jeralyn (Ben) Smiley of Plano, Texas; grandson, Stephen (Savanah) Workman of Hurst, Texas; grandson, Timothy Smiley of Plano, Texas; grandson, Caleb Smiley of Plano, Texas; brother, John (Janie) Vallance of Bowie, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
