Heads up! Loop 101 to close for widening project in northwest Phoenix
PPhoenix

Weekend freeway closures to impact drivers across the Phoenix area

  • May 15, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Valley drivers should plan ahead this weekend, as several freeway closures and lane restrictions are scheduled across the Phoenix area.

ADOT says the work could cause delays and drivers should allow extra time and use other routes when they can.

Interstate 10

Eastbound I-10 will be closed near the Deck Park Tunnel from the I-17 “Stack” interchange to State Route 51. The closure will last from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday.

Drivers can use southbound I-17 and get back on I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport.

Westbound I-10 will also be closed near the tunnel. That closure will be between the I-17 “Split” interchange and 7th Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

ADOT says drivers can use northbound I-17 near Sky Harbor Airport and reconnect with I-10 at the Stack interchange north of Van Buren Street.

State Route 51

Pavement improvements will cause a closure of southbound SR 51 between Northern Avenue and Highland Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Drivers can use the southbound I-17 as a detour and use city streets to navigate around the closure.

Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway)

In the West Valley, southbound Loop 101 will be closed between Indian School Road and I-10 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

The southbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Cardinals Way and Camelback Road will also be closed

Drivers can use southbound 91st or 99th avenues to reach I-10.

The work is part of a three-year project to improve the Loop 101 and I-10 interchange. Read more about the project here.

Loop 101 (Pima Freeway)

Another segment of Loop 101 in Scottsdale will be narrowed to two lanes in both directions between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive for pavement improvements.

The lane restrictions will last from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

ADOT says some southbound Loop 101 ramps may close at times. Drivers should think about getting off the freeway before the work zone.

Loop 202 (Santan Freeway)

More closures in the East Valley include eastbound Loop 202, which will be narrowed to two lanes between Arizona Avenue and McQueen Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday for a widening project.

The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Arizona Avenue will also be closed.

Lindsay Road will be closed in both directions at Loop 202 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Loop 303

Eastbound Loop 303 will be closed between 43rd Avenue and I-17 from 9 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday for construction.

Drivers can detour on northbound 43rd Avenue to eastbound Dove Valley Road to access I-17.

ADOT says restriction schedules are subject to change because of weather or other factors.

State Route 347

South of the Valley, the intersection of SR 347 and Riggs Road north of Maricopa is scheduled to close Sunday intermittently for traffic signal and utility work.

ADOT says the intersection could close in all directions for up to 15 minutes at a time between 4 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The work is being done ahead of a major widening project that will expand SR 347 from a two-lane highway to three lanes.

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time.
