Fort Worth police are investigating two officer-involved shootings that unfolded early Saturday in east Fort Worth after officers shot and killed a man investigators said pointed a gun at them.

According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers with the East Division responded around 12:05 a.m. to multiple reports of gunfire in the 4200 block of Wiman Drive.

When officers arrived, they heard additional gunfire and saw an adult man armed with a gun, police said. Officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, but investigators said he refused and at one point pointed the gun toward officers.

At least one officer fired and struck the man, according to police.

Officers rendered medical aid until Fort Worth Fire Department crews arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured in the shooting.

Several hours later, while officers were still investigating the original shooting scene near Wiman Drive, police said a white SUV repeatedly drove past the area at a high rate of speed and appeared to be attempting to hit officers standing near their vehicles.

According to investigators, officers attempted to stop the SUV, but the driver refused to pull over, leading police on a pursuit that lasted about 15 minutes.

Police said officers eventually stopped the vehicle using a tactical vehicle intervention, commonly known as a PIT maneuver.

After the SUV stopped, officers approached and gave the driver verbal commands, according to police. Investigators said the man did not comply, then grabbed an officer’s handgun, prompting multiple officers to fire.

Police said officers provided aid until Fort Worth Fire Department crews arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Fort Worth police officer was also injured during the second altercation and taken to a hospital for treatment. Police did not immediately say how the officer was injured, but said the officer was listed in good condition.

Detectives with the department’s Major Case Unit are continuing to investigate both officer-involved shootings.

Police had not released the identities of either man Saturday morning, and it was unclear how many officers fired their weapons in either shooting.
