A hiker was rescued from Camelback Mountain by the Phoenix Fire Department after falling and sustaining a head injury, officials report he’s in stable condition.

PHOENIX — A man is recovering Sunday after being rescued off Camelback Mountain, The Phoenix Fire Department said.

Rescue crews were called to Echo Canyon around 6:45 a.m. for reports of a man who fell and sustained a head injury.

According to officials, they were able to hike to the man and evaluate him on the trail. Emergency crews reportedly decided to carry the hiker off the trail on a big wheel stretcher.

Crews also used a rope system during a steep portion of the trail, Phoenix Fire said.

The man was re-evaluated once he was off the mountain and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.
