In San Antonio, it seems like everyone and their dog is moving here. And it’s not just a feeling — that’s really what’s happening.
Penske Truck Rental just released the top 10 moving destinations of 2025, and unsurprisingly, San Antonio topped the list. For 16 years, Penske has ranked the cities with the highest volume of one-way consumer truck rentals, and San Antonio ranks No. 3. The cities that made the podium are the same as last year’s ranking, indicating a continued trend of people moving to the South, according to a press release.
San Antonio has seen some fluctuations in the rankings. It didn’t budge since the previous list came out, though the 2024 numbers (released in 2025) did drop it from No. 2 to its current spot. However, the city jumped up from No. 9, where it was ranked in 2022. Before that, it held the No. 6 spot in 2021. All in all, there’s no doubt people want to move to the 210, but it’s not the most steady influx.
Houston, Texas’ biggest city, is the nation’s No. 1 moving destination
In addition, Penske’s Settling In Survey revealed that younger generations report moving more frequently than older generations, and that recreation, climate, convenience and community are motivating factors for all movers, regardless of age. Still, priorities are split, as “many respondents expressed interest in locations with access to restaurants, entertainment and activities, while a similar percentage said they value quieter communities and a slower pace of life.”
Texas, a state that certainly has both big cities and wide open spaces, is home to four of the top 10 moving destinations — a bigger hotspot than any other state. Austin came in behind the Alamo City at No. 7, and Dallas notched the No. 8 spot. Florida had two cities make the ranking — Orlando at No. 6 and Tampa, which rounded out the bottom of the list — and the other cities were scattered across the South and Southwest. Atlanta, Georgia, took the No. 2 spot, while Las Vegas, Phoenix, Arizona, and Charlotte, North Carolina, trailed.
The fourth Texas city on the list was Houston, which led the pack as the nation’s top moving destination. According to a press release, H-Town has held the No. 1 spot for five consecutive years, which isn’t surprising for the Lone Star State’s largest city by population. It was also the U.S. city that experienced the largest growth by number of people from 2024 to 2025.
