Jill Eikenberry, Jimmy Smits and Michael Tucker from the classic 1980s series “L.A. Law” will all take part in a reading of Tucker’s comedy “A Tailor Near Me” on June 8 at 7 p.m. at Westport Country Playhouse.
Eikenberry, a New Haven native and a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, and Tucker have been married since 1973. They first met while acting in a play together and have done live theater projects together often throughout their long careers.

Eikenberry played Ann Kelsey and Tucker played Stuart Markowitz for all eight seasons of “L.A. Law.” Smits, who played Victor Sifuentes for five seasons of the series, has done a lot of theater as well, including New York productions of “Twelfth Night” and “Much Ado About Nothing” with the New York Shakespeare Festival and Broadway productions of “Anna in the Tropics” and “God of Carnage.” His film and TV work includes some “Star Wars” projects and “Sons of Anarchy.”

“Michael Tucker has written a beautiful, funny, deeply observant play about friendship, reinvention, and the surprising ways we shape ourselves to fit the lives we think we’re supposed to lead,” said Westport Country Playhouse’s artistic director and longtime curator of the theater’s Script in Hand series Mark Shanahan. “Beneath the wit and warmth is an incredibly rich character study of two men finding connection where neither expected it.”
The play concerns the friendship between Sam (played by Tucker) and his tailor (Smits). Eikenberry will recite the stage directions. The reading will be directed by James Glossman of Johns Hopkins University.
Tickets for the only reading of “A Tailor Near Me” are $35. For more information, go to westportplayhouse.org.
