BEAUFORT, N.C. (WITN) – Officials say about 30,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled in Beaufort over the weekend.
The Town of Beaufort says the discharge came from the wastewater treatment plant on Freedom Park Road and entered Turner’s Creek in the White Oak River basin.
It happened for 30 minutes on Saturday after the electrical components failed to stop the overflow.
The town says repairs have since been made to replace the failed components.
