DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – MercyOne announced Wednesday that Robert Baxter will serve as its new president and CEO beginning June 22.
Baxter, who goes by Bob, will take over for Michael Taylor, who has served as interim president and CEO since the start of January.
Baxter brings more than 30 years of health care experience to the role, most recently serving as president of the Toledo market for Bon Secours Mercy Health — the largest health care system in Ohio.
He returns to Iowa, where he earned his MBA and master’s degree in Hospital and Health Administration from the University of Iowa.
MercyOne has more than 20,000 employees and a network of more than 230 hospitals, medical centers, and clinics spanning Iowa and neighboring regions.
“Bob brings the right combination of leadership and operational expertise, which will allow us to build on the progress already underway while driving toward our goals for growth and long-term sustainability in our MercyOne communities,” said Rob Casalou, executive vice president and associate chief operating officer for Trinity Health.
Taylor will remain at MercyOne through July to ensure a smooth transition.
