PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department has released new footage showing a sergeant helping save a motorcyclist who was trapped under a car after a crash last month.
On the evening of June 16, Sgt. Richard Jarrett was headed back to the Black Mountain Precinct in north Phoenix when he received a call about a crash in which a motorcyclist had been pinned under a car.
Jarrett immediately went to the scene and began to help by keeping the man awake and alert.
“I kind of assessed the scene, tried to help him, calm him down,” Jarrett said in a YouTube video posted by the department on Monday. “We’re making eye contact and I’m looking at him, trying to be like, ‘I’m here for you.’ But there’s just truly nothing I can do in that moment to kind of stop all the pain.”
How was the motorcyclist who was trapped under a car saved?
Soon after Jarrett reached the scene, Phoenix firefighters arrived. Jarrett worked with the firefighters to lift the car and free the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist is alive and recovering from his injuries, Phoenix police said.
Jarrett added that his actions were just part of his duties serving the Phoenix community.
“When people call and it’s an emergency, it’s our duty to kind of just respond as fast as possible and be there for people,” Jarrett said.
