BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Moderate drought conditions spread into Vermont late last summer, officially showing up on the drought monitor on August 21, 2025. The drought persisted for a full nine months. But today’s drought update shows that Vermont is officially out of the drought!

However, our region does still have drought conditions in New Hampshire so we’re not in the clear yet. About 21% of the state is still in a severe drought and more than half of the state is still in moderate drought. Nearly 95% of New Hampshire is still considered abnormally dry.
Vermont also still has roughly 25% of the state that is abnormally dry. These abnormally dry conditions are just one step below drought, so we still need more rain.
