Alexander Isak’s agent has suggested they’re close to finalising the player’s next step, though whether that’s a transfer or an extended stay at Newcastle United remains to be seen.NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 02: Alexander Isak of Newcastle United celebrates scoring his team's first goal during the Premier League match between Newcastle United FC and Arsenal FC at St James' Park on November 02, 2024 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Saudi Arabian website Al-Riyadiyah have shared quotes from Alexander Isak’s agent on the potential of a summer transfer, with the representative saying: “We are already studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player.”

The site adds that the agent didn’t clarify any further details, including whether that next step would be a transfer or a stay in Newcastle. But their sources claim Isak is first choice for Al-Hilal this summer.

L’Equipe report (via GFFN) that Al-Hilal are ramping up talks to sign Isak, with the club in the market for a centre-forward after seemingly missing out on Victor Osimhen.

The Saudi club are aware it would take €130m to sign Isak, but the player has at least opened the door to talks.

Liverpool had also been keen on Isak, but David Ornstein reports they’ve just agreed a £79m deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. In terms of the finances, they’d probably need to make a sale before getting anywhere close to Newcastle’s valuation of Isak.

The same is probably true of Arsenal, who have always seemingly had Isak as their number-one target if he was available. The problem is that Newcastle have never seemed likely to sell.

Luke Edwards reports for The Telegraph that Newcastle continue to insist Isak isn’t for sale at any price this summer, though they respect that the speculation has been difficult for the player and he’s been unsettled by it.

Isak’s agent reportedly felt insulted after Newcastle failed to offer Isak a new contract, having promised to do so in 2024. But the club still do plan to make a new offer in time.

All the recent speculation led to Eddie Howe excluding Isak from Newcastle’s pre-season friendly against Celtic at the weekend, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be involved when the team face Arsenal on Sunday.
