PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A woman is dead after she was struck by an apparent hit-and-run driver in south Phoenix late Sunday night.
First responders were called to a vehicle collision near 19th Avenue and Broadway Road around 11:50 p.m. and arrived to find an unconscious woman lying in the roadway.
Fire crews treated the woman before taking her to the hospital, where she later died. She has been identified as 24-year-old Angel Benkelman.
The vehicle involved had already left by the time officers arrived. Police also say they were unsuccessful in finding witnesses or surveillance video of the incident and are awaiting findings from the Office of the Medical Examiner.
