One person was killed and four others hurt Monday when a tractor-trailer driver allegedly blacked out before crashing into several other heavy duty vehicles at a far northeast Dallas intersection, authorities said.

Dallas police said five people were taken after the chain-collision wreck to local hospitals, where an unidentified victim was pronounced dead.

Information about the condition of the other victims was not immediately released.

Dallas Fire-Rescue crews responded to a call around 12:25 p.m. about the accident at Plano and Miller roads.

According to investigators, the driver of the 18-wheeler lost consciousness and drove through the intersection, colliding with the other vehicles.

“The driver struck four other vehicles including another 18-wheeler, a DART bus, a box truck and a sedan,” Dallas Fire-Rescue said.

“It is believed that a driver experienced a medical emergency which led to the crash,” police said.
