  • May 26, 2026

GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A man who had a knife and was shot by Glendale police last week has been released from the hospital and was taken to jail, investigators announced Monday.

Daren Howard was booked Sunday on felony charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct with a weapon and unlawful imprisonment.

Officers said Howard was with a woman at Pawn1st near 67th Avenue on Bell Road, and while she was trying to buy a gun, she showed the manager a large cut on her hand and mouthed the words, “Call 911.”

Howard got upset and the manager called the police.

When officers arrived, Howard and the woman were fighting, and officers told the pair to get away from each other.

That was when Howard reportedly wrapped his arm around the woman’s neck and pulled out a knife.

An officer used a stun gun on Howard, but it was not effective, police said.

A second officer then shot Howard. He and the woman were taken to the hospital.

No officers were hurt.

Buckeye police are investigating the shooting.
