A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly attacking several people at Childers, south of Bundaberg. 

Police allege one of the people, a 78-year-old North Isis man, was beaten with a metal pole and died at the scene.

On Wednesday at 2:38pm, the Bundaberg West man is alleged to have driven on Whitebridge Road, North Isis, where he exited his car and punched the man, a pedestrian, in the head before hitting him with a metal pole.

The pedestrian sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

Police have declared three crime scenes in Childers, 300 km north of Brisbane.

A short time earlier, about 2:30pm, police allege the man was driving a Subaru Liberty on North Street, Childers, when he allegedly reversed into a Mitsubishi Pajero, deliberately crashing the cars. 

Police say the Mitsubishi driver, a 65-year-old Howard man, exited his car before the Subaru driver allegedly reversed into him, got out of the car, then allegedly punched him several times before leaving the scene.

Police allege the man also drove to Crescent Street at the intersection of Lord Street in Childers and assaulted a 66-year-old man.

The man was restrained by members of the public and arrested by officers a short time later, police say. 

Earlier on Wednesday, about 1:45 pm, police also allege the man was involved in another crash on the Bruce Highway at Glenorchy, about 70km south of Childers. 

Police allege the man deliberately reversed into a Tesla before verbally abusing the Tesla driver and driving off.

None of the people attacked were believed to be known to the man, police said.

The 36-year-old has been charged with one count of murder, one of attempt to murder, acts intended to maim/disfigure/disable, dangerous operation of a vehicle and evasion.

He will appear at Gladstone Magistrates Court via video link on Thursday.
