Bexar County Sheriff’s Office – Sheriff Javier Salazar on Shavano Park murder (May 27, 2026)
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a grandmother was found dead inside her home in Shavano Park.
Sheriff Javier Salazar says the victim was in het 70s or 80s when her 27-year-old grandson attacked her in her home on Long Bow Road. Prior to that, investigators say the woman called 9-1-1 for help while indicating the suspect might be having a mental health episode.
The call for help was made just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, and the grandson was arrested not long after. Sheriff Salazar says nobody answered the door at the residence when deputies first arrived, but eventually the grandson opened the door and blood could be seen right away. Detectives say the victim could be seen lying on the floor covered in blood, and it is believed the grandson used either a blunt object or a sharp instrument during the attack. Both were found at the scene, according to BCSO.
Sheriff Salazar says the suspect has a history of interactions with the Shavano Park Police Department, but never to this extent. Investigators believe the suspect was living with the victim. A murder charge is expected for the grandson.
