Sydney Sweeney is Unrecognizable After Bold Transformation Into Legendary Boxer originally appeared on Parade.
Actress Sydney Sweeney, known for roles in well-known projects like Euphoria and The White Lotus, is trying out something completely new as she plays real-life boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic.
In an official new photo from the film, Sweeney’s bold transformation was on full display, as the actress looked practically unrecognizable while in character as the talented athlete. Martin is a former professional boxer with a very successful career, particularly in the late 1990s, bringing widespread attention to women’s boxing.
The new still shows Sweeney as Martin in the middle of a boxing ring, boxing gloves on and mouthguard in. She wore a white tank top and shorts, with her hair dark brown and curly. Sweeney’s facial expression was fierce, with her character likely in the middle of a match or training.
Fans were thrown by the image, completely stunned by Sweeney’s physical transformation.
“Now this is versatility,” commented one fan, as someone else wrote in reaction to the photo, “this transformation is akin to Charlize Theron in Monster,” comparing Sweeney’s transformation to Theron in her 2003 role as serial killer Aileen Wuornos.
Others chimed in with their thoughts, with replies like, “loving seeing her do something different,” “Talk about a total transformation! I barely recognize her!” and “Did not see this coming.”
“From lace to leather gloves. Sydney’s switching lanes and I’m here for it,” read another excited response.
Christy, the upcoming movie directed by David Michôd, is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, taking place at the start of September. Along with Sweeney, the film stars Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ben Foster and Ethan Embry.
