Giant light poles and traffic lights poles were strewn across street early Tuesday morning near the Green Line CTA Station in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood after an SUV crashed into the Green Line Station wall, leaving a trail of damage in its path.
Chicago police received a call of the crash, in the 4700 block of West Lake Street, about 4:22 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found an unoccupied white SUV on the scene, along with a traffic signal down near Fullerton and Cicero, and a damaged light pole at Cicero Avenue and Lake Street.
Police could not find the driver of the SUV or any passengers, and no injuries were reported.
Photos and video from the scene showed several police cars in the middle of the street, with large traffic poles blocking traffic underneath the train tracks.
NBC 5 traffic reporter said the crash was not impacting Green Line service.
No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating, police said.
