Orange hues illuminated New York City on Saturday evening, May 30, as a “rare Blue Moon” rose over the skyline.
Mesmerizing timelapse footage captured by Mike Carroll shows the moon rising behind the Empire State Building and nearby skyscrapers.
“I planned this Blue Moon alignment with the iconic Empire State Building and the NYC skyline from over 7 miles away! My vantage point was from Bergen County, New Jersey,” Carroll told Storyful. “It was an amazing sight to see and I even witnessed a plane flying through the moon.”
According to Space.com, the Blue Moon was expected to reach peak illumination at 4:45 am on May 31, and could first be observed as it rose above the horizon around sunset on May 30. Credit: Mike Carroll via Storyful
