Ian Lithgow opened in “The People Versus Lenny Bruce” on May 14, but his father John Lithgow still hasn’t seen the Off Broadway play.
John is starring nearby at the Music Box Theater as Roald Dahl in “Giant,” but according to Ian, he doesn’t like the way he is depicted in the memoir by Ian’s ex-wife Rachel Lithgow, titled “My Year of Really Bad Dates.”
“No one is spared. Rachel warned me in advance,” Ian told me. “If this is the story she wants to tell, that’s her prerogative.”
This is one of the rare occasions where a father and son are simultaneously in shows at the same time, but instead of a celebration, it’s more of a tragedy.
Rachel’s book depicts her in-laws as angry penny-pinchers who never embraced her or her two children with Ian.
But Ian is hopeful, calling the rift “an opportunity for healing … We’re working on it.”

David Zucker, co-creator of the original “The Naked Gun,” wasn’t impressed with Seth MacFarlane’s remake starring Liam Neeson and Pam Anderson.
On an episode of The SDR Show podcast with Ralph Sutton, Zucker, who also co-created “Airplane,” said the remake inspired him to create Master Crash, his online how-to-create-a-spoof classes.

Zucker appreciates that MacFarlane is a fan, but that doesn’t mean he thinks MacFarlane is capable of doing what he’s done for 40 years — make funny movies.
“Maybe he’ll take my Master Crash and next time he takes away one of my franchises, maybe he’ll do a good job of it,” Zucker said.

Noel Ashman — the nightclub impresario turned movie producer — had good advice for students at the School of Visual Arts.
Ashman was a guest lecturer in Charles Kipps’ film class, following stints by Chris Noth and Holt McCallany.
Asked by a student how to get into the movie business, Ashman said the prerequisite is “passion … it’s infectious. You are going to get rejected 500 times. You have to keep at it 501 times. Keep going. Every successful person has failed. You have to keep going.”

Ashman has produced 16 movies with the likes of John Travolta, Mickey Rourke, Ice-T and Sylvester Stallone. He had nothing but praise for the actors.
“Others were not as easy though,” he laughed.

Society band leader Alex Donner performed his first cabaret show the other night at La Goulue since playing Cafe Carlyle 25 years ago.
Donner regaled the packed restaurant on East 61st Street with stories about growing up on Fifth Avenue to singing in Paris, doing “divorces during the week as a lawyer and weddings on weekends with the band.”
The crowd included the restaurant’s owner Jean Denoyer, Marquesa Viuda de San Damian, Marc Rosen and David Patrick Columbia.
“Donner closed with an encore of his own tune ‘Black Tie Blues’ before his band enticed everybody onto the dance floor,” reports Hampton Sheet publisher Joan Jedell. “We hear he’ll be back at La Goulue in the fall.”

In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the Museum of Democracy is presenting “The Story of America: 1776-2026, A Celebration of Freedom and Independence” at the Southampton Arts Center.
The exhibition showcases presidential elections through a collection of rare campaign memorabilia from the Wright Family Collection.
Items include the flag flown at George Washington’s inauguration at Federal Hall in New York, torches used during parades in the 1850s, and paper dresses worn during campaign rallies in the ‘60s.
Sharon Bush, who was once married to President George W. Bush’s brother, said, “It combines my love of American history, which I taught many moons ago, and my background in politics.”

Celebrities like Jane Fonda, 88, and Kathy Griffin, 65, have been very open about their facelifts.
Rosie O’Donnell, 64, just confessed on Substack, saying, “I used to feel very strongly about facelifts, I thought it was a betrayal of feminism and then I lost 50 pounds. I’m quite pleased with the whole thing, and guess what — no one has noticed. Not one person. I didn’t disappear, I didn’t become someone else. This is me.”

“The Boys” star Erin Moriarty is celebrating the end of her hit TV series on Amazon Prime after 10 years and five seasons in an unusual way, confessing, “I am not watching the final season.”
The series is about a group of crimefighters trying to take down an evil corporation of superheroes who are abusing their power. Moriarty opened up to Devorah Rose, the editor of Social Life Magazine, about contracting Graves’ disease while filming season five.
To watch herself, “it would be like reliving it,” she said.

“To have gotten a role like this, and to find out late in the game that I had been suffering the kind of autoimmune disease that has made me totally not present for many of my scenes, which is the antithesis of who I am as an actor,” she confessed.
“I was really ill. And so I am not watching the final season.”
