Where is San Diego’s famous summer beach weather? With just over a week left in July, the county’s coastline continues to be unseasonably cool and overcast.
That’s not going to change this week, when around 135,000 people cram into the convention center on San Diego Bay for Comic-Con, says the National Weather Service. Preview night is Wednesday.
“We’re getting more low pressure than we usually do from the the Pacific Northwest and Canada,” said Sebastian Westerink, a weather service forecaster. “We haven’t had a single heat wave yet.”
The moisture creates clouds. The marine layer was 2,000 feet deep Tuesday morning and will be roughly the same Wednesday.
The average monthly temperature at San Diego International Airport in June was 70.9 degrees, nearly one degree below normal. So far this month, the July average temperature is 73.3 degrees, almost two degrees below normal.
That may seem marginal. But Westerink said people notice the thicker, lingering clouds — and the cooler air means that a lot of people won’t need to turn on their air conditioning.
