San Antonio’s in the spotlight as the Spurs take on the New York Knicks 27 years after their historic match up that led to the Alamo City’s first of five NBA Championships.
And while Game 2 is also set for San Antonio this Friday, New York looms on the horizon. Game 3 on Monday, June 8 and Game 4 on Wednesday, June 10 are set for Madison Square Garden and at least one Knicks fan is already up to no good.
New York City Mayor and everyone’s favorite Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani took to X on Wednesday to invite Wemby to a newly announced commission hearing.
“I’m pleased to invite @Wemby to our second Commission on Government Efficiency hearing on Wednesday June 10th 5-8pm, where we’ll be asking the public for their thoughts on how government can run better. Would love to have you there for the whole time!”
The commission was announced at the end of May, with the goal of providing “better support public excellence by improving efficiency, modernizing city government and ensuring government keeps pace with New Yorkers’ needs.”
Though Mamdani’s cheeky X post doesn’t mention whether he’ll be at Game 4 next Wednesday, we could see him on screen during pre-game programming. Mamdani’s San Antonio counterpart sat with Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, Kenny “The Jet” Smith and Ernie Johnson on NBA Tip-Off ahead of Game 1.
Mayor Jones used her five minutes effectively, defending the River Walk, taking a few jabs at Barkley, teasing a wager with Mamdani, and serving up some churros. You can watch the full clip below.
Wemby will be too busy channeling his inner Shaolin monk or picking up chess games at Washington Square Park ahead of next Wednesday’s game, but maybe next time, Mamdani.
